CLERMONT, Fla. -- After running off four straight wins to begin the season te Amherst College softball team tasted defeat for the first time in 2025, dropping a 9-1, 6-inning mercy-rule decision to Wellesley and a 5-4 thriller to Plymouth State at te Legends Way Complex.
Amherst fell to 4-2 on the season. The Mammoths have Wednesday off before returning to play Thursday with a 2 p.m. game Fredonia and a 4:15 game vs. SUNY-Plattsburgh. Both games will be played at Hancock Park.Â
Plymouth State 5, Amherst 4, Game 2
* Game ended with the Plymouth State right fielder making a sliding catch coming in on a short fly off the bat of
Dylan Briggs with
May Mishima on second base representing the tying run.Â
* Amherst had rallied from a 3-0 hole with three runs in the third and one in the fifth to take a 4-3 lead.Â
* In the Mammoths' third,
America Rangel reached on an error with one out. Mishima followed with a double to left center that put runners on second and third.
Lulu Leppard walked to load the bases.
Abby Rebhan followed with a grounder to sort, and Rangel was safe at home when the throw there for te forceout was wide and glanced off the catcher's glove.
Dani Torres Werra then grounded a single back up the middle to score the two runners and tie the game, 3-3.Â
* In the Amherst fifth, Leppard and Rebhan hit back-to-back rockets that went for doubles. Leppard's was a shot to left center, and Rebhan's frozen rope down the left-field line scored Leppard with the go-ahead run.Â
* Two runs in the bottom of the sixth put Plymouth State back ahead.
* Rebhan and Mishima were each 2 for 4 in the loss.Â
Wellesley 9, Amherst 1, 6 inn.
* Wellesley broke open a 1-1 tie with three runs in the third and three in the fourth en route to te mercy-rule victory.Â
* The Mammoths only run came in the top of the third and tied the game, 1-1. With two outs, Rangel walked and scored when
Heidi Li crushed a long fly ball to deep right center that went for an RBI-triple.Â
* Amherst had just three hits in the loss. Li was 1 for 3 with an RBI. Rangel was 1 for 1.
Abby Moravek was 1 for 2.Â

Abby Rebhan suffered her first loss from the circle. She went four innings and was charged with four earned runs.Â
