#13 Amherst Splits Doubleheader, Falls to #20 Redlands 4-3

REDLANDS, CA – After a dominant 7-0 sweep over Whitman earlier in the da, the #13 Amherst College men's tennis team were edged by the #20 University of Redlands Bulldogs with a score of 4-3 at the Coach Jim Verdieck Tennis Center.

Up Next: With the loss, Amherst moves to 6-2 on the season (1-1 versus NESCAC teams) and will now turn their focus to the Stag Hen Invitational, a tournament featuring eight nationally-ranked teams at the Biszantz Family Tennis Center in Claremont, CA. The Mammoths will open play against #4 Denison University at 9 AM PDT on Friday in the first of two matches that day.

HIGHLIGHTS:
  • Senior Edred Opie won four out of four matches and wrapped up the day with a dominant straight-set win at #2 singles, defeating Gustavo Marcanth with a score of 6-2, 6-2.
  • Aldiyar Abzhan battled for over three hours at #3 singles, rallying from a set down versus Vitomir Petcov.
  • Junior George Chaidemenos improves his season record to 3-0; he won convincingly at #6 singles, 6-3, 6-0.
