#13 Amherst Edges #7 Williams in Marathon 4-3 Away Victory

BENNINGTON, VT – The #13 Amherst College men's tennis team delivered a statement win on Saturday, outlasting their Little Three rivals, the #10 Williams College Ephs in a tense 4-3 battle. In a match lasting six hours that came down to the final singles court, first-year Cal Wider sealed the victory for the Mammoths with a dramatic 7-5 third-set triumph at the No. 6 spot.

Amherst moves to 4-0 (2-0 versus NESCAC opposition) for the season and builds early momentum heading into their next matchup. The Mammoths will now turn their attention to their next NESCAC challenge against the #6 Middlebury College Panthers at the Nelson Recreation Center on Sunday at noon ET.

HIGHLIGHTS:

  • Sophomore Andreas Sillaste fought off a strong challenge at the #1 spot, prevailing 6-4, 4-6, 7-5 versus Nicholas Chen.
