BRUNSWICK, ME – The #10 Amherst College women's tennis team came up just short in a tightly contested match against NESCAC rivals, the #13 Bowdoin College Polar Bears, on Sunday afternoon, falling 4–3 at the indoor Maine Pines Tennis Center. The Mammoths fought hard across both doubles and singles but ultimately dropped three close singles matches in deciding third sets.
Up Next: With the loss, Amherst moves to 9–6 overall and 5–3 in NESCAC play. The Mammoths now return home for three consecutive matches, starting with #38 Hamilton College on Saturday on Amherst's outdoor tennis courts (weather permitting).
HIGHLIGHTS:
- Amherst took the doubles point with a 6–4 win at #1 from Lily Dounchis and Deliala Friedman and a 6–3 win at #3 from Greta Stechschulte and Mia Kintiroglou.
- Senior Amy Cui and first-year Tina She each earned convincing straight-set wins at #2 and #5, respectively.
- Cui extended her winning streak at the #2 singles spot to four matches.
