#8 Amherst Bounces Back with 7-0 Sweep over #56 Bates

AMHERST, MA – The #8 Amherst College men's tennis team responded to yesterday's close loss with a dominant 7–0 win over the #56 Bates College Bobcats on Saturday afternoon, sweeping all nine courts in the Mammoths' second straight day of competition. The match was played indoors at Bay Road Tennis Center due to rainy conditions.

Up Next:
With the win, Amherst improves to 11–4 overall and 4–1 in NESCAC play. The Mammoths will continue conference action next weekend with a Saturday-Sunday doubleheader at home. They'll open with the #52 Colby College Mules on Saturday at Noon on Amherst's outdoor courts (weather permitting) or Ludlow Tennis Center.

HIGHLIGHTS:
  • Amherst swept all three doubles courts to secure the early 1–0 lead.
  • Senior Edred Opie went 2–0 on the day for the second straight match, winning 6–2, 6–2 at #2 singles and taking a 6–3 victory at #1 doubles with Andreas Sillaste.
  • Junior George Chaidemenos improved to a perfect 10–0 on the season with a 7–6, 6–1 win at #6.
  • Amherst didn't drop a single set in singles play.
