HADLEY, MA. -- Four members of the Amherst College baseball team were accorded All-NESCAC honors when they were announced today.
Senior shortstop
Ryan McIntyre (Larchmont, N.Y.) was selected as the NESCAC Defensive Player of the Year and earned an All-NESCAC First Team nod. He is joined on the All-NESCAC First Team by senior utility player
Jack Sampedro (Miami, Fla.) and sophomore pitcher
E.J. Nevills (Westwood, Mass.). Sophomore outfielder
Charlie LaFreniere (Norwalk, Conn.) was the sole All-NESCAC Second Team honoree.
Though one of the leaders throughout his career, McIntyre finally got that recognition from the NESCAC with his Defensive Player of the Year award. Defensively, be compiled a .961 fielding percentage while quarterbacking the Mammoths' defense. He also turned a team-leading 18 double plays and notched 68 assists. A complete player, he did his part on offense too: he put up a .344 batting average (top 20 in the NESCAC) and hit four home runs this season. These honors put the cherry on top of an incredible career in which McIntyre was a three-time All-NESCAC selection and two-time All-Region selection to date.
Sampedro earned his third All-NESCAC selection with his First Team award this year to go along with his 2023 and 2024 Second Team All-NESCAC and 2024 All-Region honors. In 2025, the senior picked up right where he left off, recording a .351 batting average on 47 hits and 34 RBIs in 2025, which rank as fifth and sixth in the NESCAC, respectively. On the mound, the sidearm pitcher served as one of the Mammoths' primary closers, going 3-3 on the year with four saves and a 2.70 ERA.
Nevills' selection to the First Team is his first All-NESCAC selection. The sophomore dominated on the mound for the Mammoths this season, recording a 2.40 ERA (second in the NESCAC) while acting as the team's ace and pitching the all-important second game of all their conference series. He went 4-1 in seven starts this season, and recorded one save in 45 innings pitched. He did not give up a home run all year.
LaFreniere was awarded his second All-NESCAC selection, earning his second straight Second Team All-Conference honor this season. The Amherst right fielder finished the year with a top 20 batting average, at .347, and a top 15 on-base percentage of .465. He also finished in the top 10 in RBIs with 32 on 43 hits.
Amherst ended the season with an 18-16 overall record, including a 9-3 record in NESCAC play. Their play earned them a place in the NESCAC Tournament Quarterfinal, which they hosted for the second straight year.
