#11 Amherst Blanks SUNY Oswego State in NCAA Opener, 4–0

Box Score BEVERLY, MA – The #11 Amherst College men's tennis team opened NCAA Tournament play with a commanding 4–0 victory over the SUNY Oswego State Lakers on Friday afternoon at the Bass River Tennis Club. Playing indoors due to rain, the Mammoths wasted no time asserting control, sweeping doubles and cruising through the top three singles courts to advance to the Round of 32.

Up Next: With the win, Amherst improves to 16–7 overall and holds an 8–4 record against NESCAC opponents. The Mammoths now turn their attention to what promises to be one of the most exciting Round of 32 matches in the NCAA Tournament, as they face the #12 Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI) Engineers on Saturday at 3 PM at Bass River Tennis Club.


HIGHLIGHTS:
  • Sophomore Andreas Sillaste and senior Edred Opie opened the match in dominant fashion, winning 6–0 at #1 doubles.
  • First-year Spencer Leung eased past his opponent at #6 singles with a 6–0, 6–1 win.
  • The Mammoths dropped just three games en route to victory
