Three Mammoths named USILA Scholar All-Americans, Amherst earns Team Academic Award

LOUISVILLE, Ky. — Three recent graduates from the Amherst College men's lacrosse team have been named Scholar All-Americans by the United States Intercollegiate Lacrosse Association (USILA).

Midfielder Alex Giacobbe (Manhasset, NY), faceoff specialist Nicholas Kopp (Damascus, MD) and defenseman Lawson Laverty (Round Hill, VA), each of whom graduated this spring as part of the Class of 2025, were among the 138 honorees across Division III. The Mammoths were also one of 80 Division III teams honored with the Academic Team Award as a program with a team cumulative grade point average of at least 3.0.

Giacobbe is a two-time All-NESCAC selection and has earned USILA All-America honorable mention accolades each of the last two seasons. He concluded his career with 83 goals and 25 assists in 59 career games. Giacobbe graduated with a double major in economics and mathematics.

Kopp has excelled as one of the best faceoff specialists in the NESCAC throughout his career, earning three All-NESCAC and two USILA All-America honorable mention honors. He won 58.7 percent of faceoffs and scooped up 456 ground balls in his career, while also tallying 18 goals and 8 assists in 69 career games. Kopp graduated with a major in economics.

Laverty was tabbed as a Third Team All-American by the USILA this season and has earned three All-NESCAC selections, including two first-team nods. A team captain this year, Laverty tallied 148 ground balls and 98 caused turnovers in 69 career games. Laverty earned his third Academic All-District selection from College Sports Communicators this season and graduated with majors in economics and music.

The Mammoths concluded the 2025 season with an 11-6 overall record, the team's 11th consecutive season with a winning record, and were ranked 15th in the nation in the final USILA Division III poll after reaching the round of 16 in the NCAA Tournament.
