#10 Mammoths Double Up Dartmouth, 6-3

AMHERST, MA — The #10 Amherst College women's squash team jumped three spots in the national rankings after strong wins over Georgetown and Tufts ahead of their match against Dartmouth on Thursday. The Mammoths continued to showcase their strong form on with a 6-3 win over #13 Dartmouth College. The Mammoths hosted the Big Green on their home courts, Davenport Squash Courts, winning in straight sets on four out of nine courts. Amherst also prevailed in two five-set thrillers, on court #1 and #8. Notably, this victory over Dartmouth is Amherst's first over the Big Green, breaking a losing streak of seven prior matches. The match improved the Mammoths' overall record to 7-1. With three away NESCAC matches coming up next week, the Mammoths are looking confident and ready to continue their winning ways.

GAME HIGHLIGHTS:
  • Quincy Cline prevailed in a five-set marathon at the #1 spot against Maria Clara Ramirez Velasquez of Dartmouth. Cline won the first two sets, dropping the next two, and finally winning in the deciding set 11-9. The match lasted 55 minutes.
  • Sophomore Brigid Brandon at the #9 singles spot had the fastest match of the day, besting Dartmouth's Uma Patnaik in only 21 minutes with the score of 3-0 (11-7, 11-8, 11-3).

* The Mammoths' season record now stands at 7-1 (3-0 in NESCAC matches). Next up, Amherst will have four days off from matches, and then hit the road to Maine to face Bates College on January 19th, at 5:00 PM. Amherst will also face two other NESCAC opponents in Maine, Colby (Jan 21) and Bowdoin (Jan 22).
