WORCESTER, Mass. -- Sophomore
Justin Orridge cracked a 2-run homer in the top of the 10th inning Thursday, sparking a five-run outburst that carried the Amherst College baseball team to a 15-10 triumph in a wild, seesawing, extra-inning affair at Granger Field.
The Mammoths improved to 3-1 on the season and now head to Florida for a six-game spring break trip. First up is Babson Sunday at 6 p.m. at the Lake Myrtle Complex's Main Field. The Cougars fell to 6-3 with the defeat.
GAME HIGHLIGHTS:
* Amherst opened the scoring immediately, pushing across two runs in the first inning and adding another in the second to take a 3–0 lead. Shortstop
Aiden Dubetsky set the tone with a lead-off double, one of his two extra-base hits on the day. Clark responded in the bottom of the first, capitalizing on an Amherst error and aggressive baserunning to tie the game 2–2.

Naaveen Narayanan settled in from there, delivering four innings with six strikeouts and no earned runs, keeping Clark's offense contained.
* Clark chipped away, highlighted by a solo home run from Michael Salzillo, and eventually led 6–3 entering the late innings.
* The turning point came in the top of the seventh, when Amherst sent 12 batters to the plate and scored seven runs to break open what had been a tight contest. The rally featured contributions throughout the lineup:
Tyler McCord continued his standout day with one of his four hits. Orridge and
Charlie LaFreniere each drew bases-loaded walks.
Matthew Chen delivered a two-run double.
Carson Ames added an RBI single. McCord capped the inning with a two-run single. The outburst gave Amherst an 10–6 lead.
* Clark answered with four runs in the bottom half of the seventh, powered by a two-run homer from Michael Soares and an RBI double from Brayden Hollinrake.
* Amherst's bullpen held on, with reliever
Weslley De Oliveira Jr. providing two key scoreless innings to stabilize the game and push it into extra innings. He earned is first win of the season.
* In the top of the 10th, Amherst delivered its second offensive explosion of the afternoon. McCord opened the inning with a double, and Orridge followed with a towering two-run home run to snap the 10-10 tie. After a walk and a hit-by-pitch, Amherst added another run on a wild pitch. J.J. Grimes, who had entered as a late substitution, launched a two-run homer — his first hit of the season — to put the game out of reach.
