CLERMONT, Fla. -- It was a slow day for the Amherst College softball team as they dropped two games, a 4-1 decision to the University of Wiscnsin-Oshkosh and a an 8-2 defeat to Franklin & Marshall at Hancock Park.
The double-dip left the Mammoths at 3-5 on the trip, which concludes Saturday with a 9 a.m. game vs. M.I.T. and an finally an 11:15 a.m. clash with Luther College. Both games will played at Legends Way Field #5.
Game 1: Oshkosh 4, Amherst 1
* The Titans scored three times in the bottom of the first and left the rest to te more than capable right-arm of junior Briana Bougie, who threw six shutout innings and left with a 4-0 lead.
* The Mammoths nearly put together an al-time rally in the top of the 7th. Down 4-0,
Heidi Li led off with a double to left center. A wild pitch moved her to third before
Emma Nordstrom drew a walk.
Abby Kong ran for Nordstrom. Anna Promozic then it a ard smash to second and both she and Kong were safe when the trow to second got away. Grace Nardi replaced Bougie and struck out te next two hitters before retiring
Brooke Wild on a fly to right to end the game.
* Li was 2 for 3 with a run scored for Amherst.
* Senior
Abby Moravek took the loss for the Mammoths, tossing six frames and allowing seven hits while walking only one and struck out six. She was charged with all four runs, three of which were earned.
Game 2: Franklin & Marshall 8, Amherst 2
* F&M also built a 3-0 lead, scoring three times in the top of the third, two coming on a home run from Julia Steiner off Amherst starter
Chloe Hartlep.
* Amherst scored twice in the bottom of the fourth to inch within a run at 3-2. Promozic drew a one-out walk. She took second on a wild pitch and third when
Julia O'Connell beat out a bunt single. Another wild pitched allowed Promozic to score and O'Connell to move up.
Gwen Religa singled to third.
Annie Katuska then dropped a squeeze bunt to score the second run.
* F&M would tack on five runs in the final three innings. Hartlep took the loss, allowing three runs on five hits in 2 2/3 innings.
