Captains Program

 

All Varsity team captains take part in the Captains Program, which serves as the capstone program of Amherst LEADS. Nearly all captains enter the program having already accumulated three years of leadership training in the FYI and Futures programs, preparing them well for this new leadership challenge.

Amherst Captains quickly bond with one another during the multi-day Captains Symposium which occurs every August. The Symposium exposes Captains to a number of carefully chosen physical and mental challenges, requiring participants to step outside of their comefort zones and rely on support from others in order to succeed. The Symposium is an incredibly unique experience designed to prepare Captains to embrace the challenging road ahead as they do their very best to lead their teams to a fun and successful season.

Along with supporting the student-athlete experience of being a Captain, the Captains Program also focuses on the application of leadership skills after graduation. Captains are able to connect with and learn from impressive Amherst Alumni at a number of Amherst LEADS events throughout the year and attend workshops geared toward preparing them for life after Amherst College.
