First-Year Initiative Program
The Amherst LEADS First-Year Initiative (FYI) Program has become a prominent part of each and every student-athlete’s experience and serves as a great way to build camaraderie among student-athletes across all sports. The First-Year Initiative Program has been designed to support and enhance the First-Year student-athlete experience. Here at Amherst LEADS, we strongly believe that one cannot be a leader of others until one has a strong sense of self. With this in mind, the FYI program assists student-athletes in building a strong foundation of essential leadership skills and knowledge that can be utilized in their athletic, academic, and personal endeavors.
Through participation in the FYI program, first-year student-athletes achieve enhanced self-awareness and self-development through workshops examining behavioral assessments, recognizing strengths and weaknesses, and understanding personal contributions in a team setting. With the help of sophomore and junior student-athletes facilitators, first-years are challenged to think deeply about their roles and responsibilities at Amherst College and are encouraged to lead lives of excellence in all that they do.
