M-Soccer Blanks Trinity in NESCAC Regular-Season Finale

HARTFORD, CT - Senior forward Adrian Talbott (Washington, DC) scored his first goal of the season off a pair of assists from midfielders Carlo Valdesolo (Andover, MA) and Andrew Korytoski (Northampton, MA) to lead the Amherst College men's soccer team to a 1-0 victory at Trinity College in Saturday's NESCAC regular-season finale. Talbott's game-winning tally, which came with 9:47 left in the first half, was all Amherst would need as its defense held the Bantams to just seven shots on goal. Senior netminder Bill Orum (Greenwich, CT) made just one save en route to his fourth shutout of the season. Amherst improved to 7-5-2 overall and 5-2-2 in NESCAC play, while Trinity fell to 6-8 overall and 3-6 in the NESCAC.

The Jeffs had already clinched a spot in the seven-team NESCAC Championship Tournament - which kicks off Sunday at 10:30 a.m. at Middlebury College - before Saturday's win. Williams College, which boasts an 8-0 record in conference play entering Saturday's action, earned the top seed and the honor of hosting the semifinals on Saturday, November 3, as well as the championship game on Sunday, November 4. Saturday's results will determine much of the remainder of the tournament seedings. Williams, Middlebury, Bowdoin, Tufts and Amherst have all clinched spots, while Wesleyan, Trinity or Bates will earn the final two seeds.

Final tournament seedings will be announced at http://www.nescac.com at the conclusion of Saturday's action.
