No. 6 Amherst Field Hockey Tops Trinity, 3-1

HARTFORD, CT - The Amherst College field hockey team, ranked sixth in the latest STX/National Field Hockey Coaches Association poll, scored three first half goals en route to a 3-1 victory at NESCAC foe Trinity College. The Jeffs improved to 8-1 overall and 4-1 in NESCAC play with the win.
Amherst junior forward Abby Ouimet (Hatfield, MA) cracked the scoring column less than five minutes into the game on an assist from senior tri-captain midfielder Mairin Brady (Bethesda, MD). Fellow senior tri-captain Marcy Busch (Scarsdale, NY) then scored unassisted with 16:16 remaining in the first half to push the lead to 2-0. Trinity cut the lead to 2-1 a mere 1:17 later, but Amherst sophomore forward Christine Ryan (Summit, NJ) cemented the win with on a penalty stroke with 2:39 remaining in the first half.
Amherst goalie Beth Sensing (Hockessin, DE) made six saves, while Trinity's Jessica Martin finished with five.
Amherst returns to action Saturday at noon against visiting NESCAC rival Middlebury College.
