AMHERST, MA – The Amherst College field hockey team came out on the short end of a rough-and-tumble battle on Wednesday, as Mount Holyoke junior Lauren Weiner (Kensington, MD) slipped the game-winning tally past sophomore goalkeeper K.C. Cosentino (Greenwich, CT) in the 24th minute, handing the Jeffs their second consecutive loss. The victory was Mount Holyoke's sixth in a row as they improved to 7-1 on the season. The Jeffs fell to 3-4.
Amherst senior Jenna Obelsky (Stoughton, MA) played aggressively, registering four shots to pace the Jeffs. Seniors Abby Ouimet (Hatfield, MA), Christine Ryan (Summit, NJ) and sophomore Erin Leydon (Bridgeton, ME) each notched two shots, but the Jeffs were unable to find the back of the cage. Mount Holyoke goalkeeper Elizabeth Wishart (Virginia Beach, VA) piled up seven saves on the day. Meanwhile, the Lyons kept the pressure on Amherst the entire game. Cosentino had a busy day for Amherst, earning 10 saves.
On Saturday, Amherst will travel to face Middlebury College in a NESCAC showdown, before visiting Keene State College on Wednesday. The Jeffs will come home again to face Colby College on Saturday, Oct. 12.
