HARTFORD, CT – The Amherst College men's soccer team earned the No. 4 seed in the NESCAC Postseason Championship Tournament with a 2-0 win over conference rival Trinity College (7-6-1/4-4-1) on Saturday, and will open tournament play Sunday at noon against visiting No. 5 seed Tufts University (9-4-1/4-4-1).
Senior quad-captain Dave Michener (Eden Prairie, MN) and junior Jeff Cantwell (Randolph, NJ) each scored for the Jeffs, who improved to 10-3-1 overall and 6-3 in conference play with a win in their regular season finale. Currently ranked fifth in New England, Amherst has now won seven straight heading into the postseason, with its last five victories coming by way of shutout.
Amherst first-year goalie Greg Lockwood (Vancouver, WA) earned his fourth straight shutout and sixth of the season with four saves on the afternoon.
