Jeffs Edged at Bowdoin, 2-1

BRUNSWICK, ME - The Amherst College men's soccer team was edged by NESCAC foe Bowdoin College, 2-1, Saturday afternoon at Brunswick. With the loss, the Jeffs drop to 2-2-1 overall and 1-2 in conference play while the Polar Bears improved to 3-1 and 2-1.

Bowdoin drew first blood 6:22 into the game when sophomore Bobby Desilets took a pass from first-year Andrew Russo and found the back of the net. The Polar Bears struck again when Russo gathered a rebound off a gorgeous save by Jeff rookie goalkeeper Greg Lockwood (Vancouver, WA) and blasted a shot in for his third point on the afternoon, giving the hosts a 2-0 advantage at the break. The lone Amherst goal came in the 73rd minute when senior Roger Boulay (Norfolk, MA) chipped a shot past Bowdoin junior netminder Travis Derr.

Lockwood recorded four saves for the Jeffs while Derr notched a trio of saves for the hosts.

Amherst returns to action Wednesday at 4:30 p.m. against visiting non-league foe Springfield College.
