SOUTH HADLEY, MA - The 13th-ranked Amherst College field hockey team fell 3-1 at Mt. Holyoke College on Wednesday. Senior co-captain Christine Ryan scored her third goal of the year, but the Jeffs dropped to 6-1 with their first loss of the season.
The host Lyons built a 2-0 lead with goals from sophomore forward Katie Marquis. She found the cage just under four minutes into the game with an unassisted score and added the second off an assist from junior Megan Entwistle. Ryan narrowed the gap with an unassisted goal in the second half, but senior Liz Hughes fed Marquis to complete the hat trick at the 1:23 mark to seal the win for Mt. Holyoke.
Junior goalkeeper K.C. Cosentino had five saves for Amherst, while Mt. Holyoke's Meg Barrow collected seven saves as the Lyons improved to 7-2 on the year.
Amherst hosts NESCAC rival Middlebury College Saturday at Noon
