No. 18 Jeffs Finish Regular Season with 5-2 Win Over Trinity

 

AMHERST, MA - The 18th-ranked Amherst College field hockey team finished its regular season at 10-4 overall (6-3 NESCAC) with a 5-2 win over visiting NESCAC rival Trinity College on Saturday. With the victory, Amherst earns the No. 4 seed and a first-round home game in the NESCAC Postseason Championship Tournament. The Jeffs open tournament play tomorrow at 1 p.m. against visiting No. 5 seed Colby College. 

Amherst used a pair of goals by sophomore midfielder Katherine Skrivan (St. Louis, MO) - assisted by junior Tyler Kelly (Bronxville, NY) and senior co-captain Christine Ryan (Summit, NJ), respectively - to take a 2-1 lead at the half. Trinity knotted the score at 2-2 just over four minutes into the second half with an unassisted tally by junior Jessica Baker (Middlebury, CT), but Amherst sealed the win with a trio of scoring strikes over the final 15 minutes of regulation. Junior Lauren Anderson (Telluride, CO), rookie Rachel Carr-Harris (Pleasantville, NY) and sophomore Molly Gilbert (Penn Valley, PA) each connected for Amherst in the second half. 

Junior goalie K.C. Cosentino (Greenwich, CT) went the distance for the Jeffs with three saves in 70 minutes. Trinity senior Gwen Gillespie (Bratenahl, OH) registered nine saves in defeat, as the Bantams finish their season at 5-9 (3-6).
