Gannon, Wohl Lead Undefeated Jeffs Past 12th-Ranked Bowdoin, 1-0

BRUNSWICK, ME - Junior Joe Gannon (Hanson, MA) scored the game's lone goal off an assist from sophomore Mike Wohl (Northampton, MA) in the 67th minute as the undefeated Amherst men's soccer team improved to 7-0 overall and 3-0 in conference play with a narrow 1-0 win at 12th-ranked NESCAC rival Bowdoin College on Saturday. Junior goalie Greg Lockwood (Vancouver, WA) turned away five shots en route to his 12th career shutout.

Wohl entered the weekend having scored in every game this season but settled for a game-winning assist at Bowdoin, feeding Gannon for his third goal of the year - a breakaway blast midway through the second half.

Bowdoin nearly connected on an Ethan Ross header off a corner kick in the first half, and Ross came perilously close to knotting the score in the waning minutes, sending a right-footed blast just north of the crossbar with eight minutes on the clock.

Amherst returns to action next Saturday at 1:30 p.m. at NESCAC foe Middlebury College.
