Jeffs Drop Regular-Season Finale to Williams, 2-0

AMHERST, MA - The Amherst College men's soccer team dropped its regular-season finale 2-0 to visiting NESCAC and Little Three rival Williams College on Saturday. With the loss, Amherst (10-4/5-4 NESCAC) was handed the No. 6 seed in the NESCAC Championship Tournament and will open postseason play tomorrow (Sunday) at noon at third-seeded Bowdoin College.

Williams (10-2-2/7-1-1 NESCAC) tallied goals in each half to seal the win. Eph sophomore midfielder Thomas Day (Needham, MA) cracked the scoring column in the sixth minute, sliding a rebound into the bottom left corner of the net after a diving stop by Amherst junior goalie Greg Lockwood (Vancouver, WA). Williams sophomore Matthew Nolan (Palo Alto, CA) then cemented the victory with 10:17 left in regulation off an assist by junior Joshua Bolton (Penfield, NY).

Junior goalie Nicholas Armington (Wenham, MA) needed just two saves to notch the shutout for Williams. Lockwood finished with five saves in defeat.
