Leydon's Hat Trick Leads Jeffs Past Mt. Holyoke, 3-0

AMHERST, MA - Senior forward Erin Leydon (Bridgton, ME) tallied a trio of scores to lead the Amherst College field hockey team to a 3-0 victory over visiting non-conference foe Mt. Holyoke College on Wednesday. Sophomore midfielder Rachel Carr-Harris (Pleasantville, NY) assisted on a pair of Leydon's goals, giving her a team- and NESCAC-best six assists on the year as the Jeffs won their third straight and improved to 4-2.

The game was scoreless after the first 34 minutes of play, but Leydon ended the drought 51 seconds before the half, dribbling into the circle on the left side and firing an unassisted score past Mt. Holyoke junior goalie Jennifer Wing (Yarmouth, ME). Leydon's second score came at the 11:58-mark of the second half as Carr-Harris sent a free hit near the goal where Leydon knocked it home for the 2-0 lead. Carr-Harris set up another Leydon score in the waning minutes of regulation, dribbling around three Mt. Holyoke defenders before unleashing a shot, which Leydon rerouted into the cage. Leydon's hat trick leaves her tied atop the NESCAC with seven goals on the year.

Senior goalie K.C. Cosentino (Greenwich, CT) needed only two saves to register her second shutout of the season, while Wing had six saves for the visiting Lyons, who fell to 4-3 with the loss.

Amherst returns to action on Saturday at 11:30 a.m. at NESCAC rival Bowdoin College.
