HARTFORD, Conn. – The Amherst College field hockey team dropped from the national rankings Tuesday morning, but the Lord Jeffs made a case for reinstatement by earning a 1-0 win over 15th-ranked Trinity College tonight at Sheppard Field.

Krista Zsitvay '14 (New Vernon, N.J.) scored the game's lone goal and Rachel Tannenbaum '15 (Berwyn, Pa.) made eight saves in her collegiate debut to lead the Lord Jeffs (1-0/1-0 NESCAC), who began the week ranked 14th in the NFHCA Division III Coaches Poll.

Zsitvay's goal came five minutes and 23 seconds into the contest, and the Bantams (1-1/1-1 NESCAC) would be shut out by Tannenbaum the rest of the way. Trinity's best opportunity came midway through the second half when Payson Sword lined up for a penalty stroke, but Amherst's first-year goalie left her feet to make the leaping save.

Trinity held a 14-11 advantage in shots, including a 9-4 edge in the second half, but the Lord Jeffs doubled up the Bantams on penalty corners, 14-7. Gina Dinallo finished with six saves in the losing effort, with each goalie stopping five shots in the opening half.

The Jeffs increased their win streak against the Bantams to three games. Each of the past six meetings between Amherst and Trinity has been decided by one goal, four of which have ended in a 1-0 score.

The Lord Jeffs, who are now 12-2 in their past 14 games dating back to last season, will host Bates and Middlebury this Saturday (11 a.m.) and Sunday (2 p.m.), respectively. Each game will be played on Gooding Field and will feature a live webcast.
