BRUNSWICK, Maine – Greg Singer's '16 goal in the 62nd lifted the No. 18 Amherst men's soccer team to a hard-fought 1-0 victory over Bowdoin in Saturday afternoon's NESCAC tilt.

With the win, Amherst improves to 2-0-1 overall, 1-0-1 in NESCAC play and extends its current unbeaten streak in conference play to 22 games behind Singer's game-winner.

Following a scoreless first period that saw Amherst hold a 5-2 lead in shots, the Jeffs pulled ahead in the 62nd minute. Nico Pascual-Leone '16 made a long throw to the top of the box that came to the foot of Singer. Singer blasted a shot that deflected off a Bowdoin defender and into the goal at 61:26 to put Amherst ahead.

The Polar Bears' best bid to tie the score came in the closing minute. After a free kick was awarded at the edge of the Amherst box, Bowdoin's Eric Goitia lined up a rocket that seemed destined for the top right corner of the net. But net-minder Thomas Bull '16 made a diving stop, punching the ball wide of the net to preserve the victory.

Bull stopped three shots in goal for Amherst. Bowdoin's Noah Safian also stopped three shots in the loss.

The Jeffs return to the pitch on Wednesday, Sept. 17 at NESCAC rival Conn. College. Game time is set for 4 p.m.
