GAME HIGHLIGHTS
- Amherst controlled the momentum for the majority of the game Saturday. In the win, the Purple & White held a slight edge in shots, 14-8, but a decisive 12-3 advantage in shots on goal.
- The visitors would get on the board 8:44 into play, with Shannon Tierney '19 recording her first goal on the season off a pass from Sara Culhane '17. Streaking down the field, Culhane was able to poke the ball past the Eph backline allowing Tierney to corral the ball and rifle a shot past netminder Margaret Draper without interference.
- Senior tri-captain Katie Paolano doubled Amherst's lead at the 28 minute-mark. Following the Purple & White's second penalty corner of the game, Culhane blasted a shot on net that was met by the pad of Draper. In the right place at the right time, Paolano found the rebound and put it in the back on the goal.
- Caroline Fiore '18 made it a 3-0 contest in the 42nd minute of action. Tabbed to take her second penalty stroke in as many games, Fiore beat the Eph goaltender on a well-placed shot after a skirmish in front of the net resulted in the stroke being awarded.
- Playing a woman-up due to a green card by Kate Pattison, tri-captain Annie Turnbull '16 tallied the final goal of the game and her first goal of the season with just over 10 minutes to play in the matchup. Collecting the ball in the top left of the circle, Turnbull sent a hard, low shot on net that beat Draper to her right side.
- The Purple & White outpaced Williams in corner opportunities, 9-4.
- Emily Horwitz '17 registered two saves in her third shutout victory of the year. Elizabeth Turnbull '18 led the team in shots with five, while first-year Tierney notched the game winner and her first collegiate goal in the outing.
- Margaret Draper made six saves between the pipes for the Ephs in the losing effort. Emma Grauberger had two defensive saves on the day in a stellar individual defensive effort.
