AMHERST, Mass. -- The Amherst College women's swimming and diving team won all but one event in a 212-87 win over NESCAC foe Colby College on Saturday at Pratt Pool in the season opener for both teams.
The Mammoths are back in action on Monday (Nov. 22) with a trip to NESCAC and Little Three rival Wesleyan for a dual meet at 5 p.m.
MEET HIGHLIGHTS
- The Mammoths kicked off the meet with a win in the 200-yard medley relay. All four Amherst swimmers - three of whom were making their collegiate debuts - went on to win two more events in the meet.
- First-year Cora Spelke led off the relay with the backstroke and went on to sweep the 100-yard and 200-yard backstroke events.
- Classmate Allison LaCroix pulled off a similar feat in the breaststroke events as she led an Amherst sweep of the top three spots in the 100-yard breaststroke and won at 200 yards as well.
- Senior captain Marie Fagan handled the butterfly leg in the medley relay, won the 200-yard butterfly and led an Amherst sweep of the top three spots in the 100-yard butterfly.
- Sophomore Lauren Eng swam the freestyle leg of the medley relay, went on to win the 100-yard freestyle and swam the anchor leg of the winning 400-yard freestyle relay team, along with juniors Alana Bailey and Jessica Gordon and sophomore Emma Lee.
- First-year Megan Lee also won two events in her collegiate debut, taking the top spots in the 200-yard freestyle and the 200-yard individual medley.
- Senior Hannah Karlin swept the diving events, winning on both the 1-meter and 3-meter boards.
- Junior Grace Tarantola touched first in the 1000-yard freestyle and also earned points with a third-place finish in the 200 back.
- First-year Jennifer Adams won the 500-yard freestyle in her collegiate debut and finished second in the 200 free.
- Colby's only win came in the 50-yard freestyle where junior Ann Tolan was the winner.
