AMHERST, Mass. -- Top-ranked Middlebury College scored two third-period goals to capture a 2-1 win over the Amherst College women's ice hockey team in NESCAC action on Friday night at Orr Rink.
The same line scored both goals for the Panthers (6-0, 3-0 NESCAC) with Madie Leidt and Katie Hargrave each posting a goal and an assist while Jenna Letterie tallied assists on both goals.
The defending NESCAC champion Mammoths (2-3, 0-3 NESCAC) face Middlebury again on Saturday (Dec. 4) at 3 p.m. at Orr Rink.
GAME HIGHLIGHTS
- After a scoreless first period, the Mammoths scored first as first-year Alyssa Xu scored her second goal of the season on an Amherst power play, finding the loose puck in a scramble off a rebound to score at 15:06 of the second period. Xu has scored all of her 2 goals and 2 assists this season in the last three games.
- The Panthers tied the score 8:19 into the third period when Leidt scored off her own rebound for her sixth goal of the season.
- Middlebury took the lead on the power play five minutes later as Hargrave redirected a shot from Leidt into the back of the net.

- The high-powered Middlebury offense outshot the Mammoths, 31-18, in the game. Middlebury goalie Sophia Merageas made 17 saves to earn the win while Amherst All-American netminder Caitlin Walker stopped 29 shots.
