Mammoths improve to 5-1 with 192-106 win over Camels

AMHERST, Mass. -- The Amherst College women's swimming and diving team won 10 events Saturday en route to a 192-106 victory over Connecticut College at Pratt Pool. 

The Mammoths celebrated Senior Day and the careers of Hannah Karlin, Marie Fagan, Julia Merrill and Caroline Needell, by improving to 5-1 on the season. They are at #8-ranked M.I.T. on January 29th. 

MEET HIGHLIGHTS

* Karlin won both the 1 and 3-meter diving competitions and her teammates supported her with 1-2-3 finishes in both events as well. Karlin gained 264.60 points in the 3-meter, just aheasd of first-year teammate Sydney Bluestein, who earned 252.59. Hannah Colaizzo placed third with 227.47 points. In the 1-meter, Karlin racked up 308.84 points while Bluestein was second with 265.94 and Colaizzo third with 229.49. 

* First-tear Megan Lee won both the 100 IM (1:01.09) and the 1650 free in 17:47.41. In the 100 IM, Allison LaCroix was second in 1:01.52 and Katie Hoffman was third in 1:02.40. Both Hoffman and LaCroix won other races. Hoffman took the top spot in the 100 breaststroke with a time of 1:00.73 and LaCroix won thew 200 breaststroke in 2:21.64. 

* Fagan won the 100 fly in 57.59 seconds while teammate Lauren Eng was third in 59.03. Fagan, LaCroix, Eng and Grace Tarantola formed the 200 medley relay team which won the event in 1:49.55. Tarantola also won the 200 backstroke with a time of 2:09.83 while Jessica Gordon won the 500 free in 5:11.15, just ahead of teammate Jennifer Adams, who placed second in 5:11.56. Adams was also second in the 200 free with a time of 1:54.80, less than a second ahead of teammate Gordon, who placed third in 1:55.15. 

*Grace Walker won the 200 fly in 24.30 seconds. Cora Spelke had a pair of second-place finishes, doing so in the 100 back (1:00.50) and the 200 back (2:10.44). Sabrina Comess was second in the 100 breaststroke (1:09.98), while Fagan was second in the 200 fly (2:06.24) and Eng in the 100 free (53.41).
