Mammoths fall to Williams on Senior Day, 3-1

AMHERST, Mass. -- Two third-period goals from the visiting Williams College men's hockey team was enough to send Amherst to a 3-1 defeat on Senior Day at Orr Rink Saturday afternoon.

The Mammoths fell to 9-12-2 overall and 8-9-1 in conference play. They await word on their seeding for the upcoming 2022 NESCAC Tournament, which will begin Friday, February 25th. Williams improved to 10-10-1 overall and 10-7-1 in the NESCAC.

GAME HIGHLIGHTS:

* After Williams took a 1-0 lead with 15 minutes left in the second stanza, Mammoth junior Michael Pitts had tied the game at one at the 12-minute mark of the second period. Sean Wrenn collided with an Eph defender along the right boards and slid the puck out to Pitts, who circled back toward the high slot. Not liking his position, he circled back around and then fired a wrist shot that beat the Williams goalie.

* In the closi9ng second of the period, Connor McGinnis had a great opportunity when the puck came out of a crowd in the Williams goal crease. Cruising down the slot, McGinnis fired a hard, low shot that Eph goalie Evan Ruschil stopped as the buzzer sounded to end the period.

* Just 3:14 into the third, Williams took a 2-1 lead on a power-play goal by Tyler Cooligan. Amherst kept up the pressure and that created a scoring opportunity for  Tyler Bourque with 4:45 remaining. Bourque's shot from the left circle at close range was stopped by Ruschil however.  With 2:51 left, Williams took advantage of an odd-man break when Dan Dachille made a great stop on Cooligan. The rebound however, went straight to Jack Forrest, who one-timed a shot into the goal for a 3-1 Williams lead.
