NEW LONDON, Conn. – Junior attack Brock Gonzalez scored six goals to lead the Amherst College men's lacrosse team to a 15-13 win over Connecticut College in NESCAC action on Wednesday night at Silfen Field.

The Mammoths, ranked 20th in the nation in the latest USILA Division III Poll, improved to 6-5 overall and 4-3 in NESCAC play, while the Camels fell to 4-5 overall with a 3-4 mark in conference play.

The Mammoths are back in action on Saturday (April 16), hosting Little Three rival Williams for a 1 p.m. NESCAC contest on Pratt Field at Lehrman Stadium.

GAME HIGHLIGHTS:

* The Mammoths jumped out to a 3-0 lead on early goals from senior midfielder Carter Tate, Gonzalez and junior midfielder Tanyr Krummenacher. The Camels answered with three of their own, tying the score at 3-3 on a goal from junior midfielder Gus Mazzocca.

* Senior captain PJ Clementi scored late in the first quarter to put the Mammoths back on top but the Camels opened the second with another goal from Mazzocca and back-to-back tallies from senior captain Nick Farnham to take a 6-5 lead into halftime.

* The Mammoths turned the game in their favor with a string of six unanswered goals in the third quarter, four of which were scored by Gonzalez. Tate and junior midfielder Bayard DeMallie also scored in the run to put the Mammoths up, 11-7, late in the third.

* DeMallie scored two more in the fourth quarter while Gonzalez and junior captain Matt Adams also netted goals, giving the Mammoths enough space to hold off a late Connecticut College rally and hold on for the win.
