BRUNSWICK, Me. -- Two third-period goal scored by the Bowdoin College men's hockey team Friday night sent Amherst to its first conference loss of the season, 3-2, at Watson Arena.
Amherst fell to 6-3-2 overall, 5-1-0 NESCAC. Bowdoin is now The Polar Bears 8-1-1 overall, 4-1-1 NESCAC. The Mammoths are back in action Saturday to face-off against Colby College at 3 p.m.
GAME HIGHLIGHTS:
* Bowdoin led 1-0 after one period of action.

Joey Verkerke evened the score just under five minutes into the second period. Verkerke intercepted a clearing pass at the Bowdoin blue line and fired a shot past Polar Bear goalie Alex Kozic.
The Mammoths took the lead midway through the frame as first-year
Josh Burke made a point-to-point pass to
Greg McGunigle. McGunigle fired from the left and
Tyler Bourque put back the rebound.
BY THE NUMBERS:
* Amherst had a 30-20 shot advantage in the game, including a 16-5 advantage in the second period.
* The Mammoths only won 27 of 59 face-offs in the game, but Bourque won 10 of the 14 he drew.
* There were seven penalties in the game, four called against the Polar Bears and three on Amherst. Neither team scored a power-pay goal.
