Autumn Lee and
Megan Taketa each went 3 for 4 Sunday as the Amherst College softball team rebounded from a season-opening loss to mercy rule Farmingdale State, 12-4, in five innings.
Amherst (1-1) dropped the opener 6-2 to Bethel. Monday, the Mammoths will take on Hamline at 2 p.m. and Loras at 4:30 p.m.
The Mammoths went up 2-0 on Farmingdale when
Sadie Pool ripped a two-run single on the first pitch she saw, scoring Taketa, who opened the frame with a single, and
Rachel Lovejoy, the who was hit by a pitch. Lee loaded the bases with a single up the middle that loaded the bases. Randi Finklestein followed with an RBI-single.
In the Amherst second, Taketa singled leading off for the second inning in a row. Lovejoy beat out a bunt for a single and Lee ripped a double to center to score both Taketa and Lovejoy.
In the third, Dani Torres Wera drew a lead-off walk before starting pitcher
Audrey Orlowski singled on a line drive to center. Taketa was then hit by a pitch to load the bases with no outs. Lovejoy lofted a sacrifice fly to left to make it 9-4 Amherst.
