AMHERST, Mass. – First-year attack
Bob Gross scored three goals and added three assists as the Amherst College men's lacrosse team earned a 15-11 win over Connecticut College in NESCAC action on Wednesday night at Gooding Field.
The Mammoths, ranked seventh in the nation in the latest USILA Division III poll, improved to 9-2 overall and 5-2 in the NESCAC, while the Camels fell to 4-6 overall and 2-5 in conference play.
The Mammoths are back in action on Saturday (April 15), visiting archrival Williams for a 1 p.m. contest.
GAME HIGHLIGHTS:
* The Camels struck first with a goal from sophomore attack J.J. Ford, but the Mammoths quickly answered with tallies from junior attack

* Connecticut College leveled the score at 2-2 on a goal from junior midfielder Jack Tenzer before the Mammoths reeled off five straight goals to take a lead they never relinquished. Gross started the run with a goal with 7:27 to play in the first quarter before Adams, senior attack
Tanyr Krummenacher and Bennett scored before the first quarter expired.

Connor Guest capped the Amherst run with the first goal of the second period before the Camels came back with four straight goals of their own, as Tenzer's goal with 1:08 remaining in the second quarter cut the Amherst lead to 7-6 at halftime.
* Guest scored the first two goals of the third quarter to record his first collegiate hat trick with Gross also adding a pair for his 10th straight multi-goal game and sophomore attack

* The Mammoths took a 12-7 lead into the fourth quarter but the Camels made another comeback push, scoring three goals in just over two minutes early in the quarter. Junior midfielder Bobby Chang netted a pair and first-year attack Liam Horkan cut the Amherst lead to 12-10, but the Mammoths closed the game with Krummenacher setting up Bennett for a goal, then adding two of his own to hold the Camels at bay.

* Four Mammoths netted hat tricks as Gross, Krummenacher, Bennett and Guest each scored three goals.

Nicholas Kopp won 19 of 30 face-offs for the Mammoths and picked up a game-high 10 ground balls as Amherst held a 41-22 advantage in ground balls.
