BOSTON -- The Amherst College volleyball team fell to Emerson College in straight sets on Saturday. The Lions defeated Amherst 3-0 (25-19, 25-14, 25-19).
Amherst moves to 10-9 on the season, while Emerson advances to 11-13. The Mammoths will host NESCAC opponent Middlebury on Friday, November 1st at 7 pm.
MATCH HIGHLIGHTS
* The Mammoths started off strong in the first set with three kills from
Anaya Thomas, keeping the score tied, 6-6. The Lions won the next nine of 12 points, taking the lead 14-9. Kills from
Charlotte Rasmussen and
Ellie Myers and a service ace from
Renee Liou kept the Mammoths in the match, but Emerson maintained their attacking momentum to win the set 25-19.
* The Lions continued their attacking prowess in the second set, taking a demanding lead, 10-3. Kills from
Kinsey Cronin and
Tiana Richardson narrowed the gap to bring the score to 11-13, but the Lions went on a six-point run to keep their lead. Despite the Mammoths' efforts, the Lions took the second set 25-14.
* In the final set, the Mammoths took the lead 7-6 with kills from
Zosia Teraszkiewicz,
Lizzie Papalia, Cronin, and Myers. The Lions kept the lead small, and the two teams traded points through the middle of the set with Cronin and Myers combining for a big defensive block. The score was tied 18-18, but the Lions generated a five-point run and came away with the win.
