AMHERST, Mass -- The Amherst College volleyball team rallied to defeat the Middlebury Panthers in five sets on Friday night. The Mammoths notched the 3-2 (25-22, 25-22, 20-25, 18-25, 15-10) victory over the Panthers.
The Mammoths improve to 11-9 overall (2-7 in the NESCAC) and the Panthers move to 13-9 (7-2 in the NESCAC). The Mammoths return to the court again tomorrow at 2 pm to face NESCAC rival WIlliams College for their senior day match.
MATCH HIGHLIGHTS
* The Mammoths won the first two sets, with offensive rallies coming off kills from
Charlotte Rasmussen,
Sofia Camilo,
Anaya Thomas, and
Kinsey Cronin. Rasmussen had three service aces in the first two sets and the Mammoths earned three blocks in the first two sets. The Mammoths claimed both sets with a score of 25-22.
* Middlebury gained some offensive momentum, winning the third and fourth sets. The Mammoths rallied, with
Allie McLaughlin earning three kills in the third set and Cronin and Thomas earning crucial points off solo blocks, but it wasn't enough.
* In the fifth and final set, the Mammoths had a 6-5 lead. They scored the next 8 of 9 points with three kills from Cronin and a combined block from
Renee Liou and
Abby Nichols. The Panthers attempted to stay in the game, but a kill from Liou ended the set, 15-10.
