MEDFORD, Mass -- The Amherst College Volleyball team fell in straight sets to NESCAC rival, the Tufts University Jumbos, Saturday afternoon. The Jumbos swept the Mammoths (25-22, 25-16, 25-14).
The Mammoths dropped to 8-2 overall and 0-2 in NESCAC play but will return to the court on Tuesday, September 24th, at 7 pm to host Westfield State University. The Jumbos advanced to 5-5 (2-0 NESCAC) on the season.
MATCH HIGHLIGHTS
* The Mammoths came out strong in the first set with a 14-9 lead off of kills by
Kinsey Cronin,
Ellie Myers, and
Charlotte Rasmussen. The Jumbos had a confident response, though, with kills from Claire Castor and Maiwenn Kamdje narrowing the gap to 19-18. The Jumbos maintained their scoring prowess and took over to win the set 25-22.
* The second set was tied 8-8, but the Jumbos won the next 5 out of 6 points to take the lead, 13-9. Kills from Julia Griffiths and a block by Castor and Alina Qi kept the momentum going for the Jumbos, and they took the set on back-to-back kills, 25-16.
* The Jumbos never trailed in the third set, taking a quick 7-4 lead. The Mammoths fought to stay in it with a service ace from
Allie McLaughlin and kills from Rasmussen and
Sofia Camilo, but the Jumbos went on a nine-point run to take the lead, 21-10. The Jumbos didn't look back, winning the set 25-14.

* Rasmussen tallied 8 kills on the day.
