HARTFORD, CT – Goals from juniors
Emily Hohmann and
Gretchen Dann led the way for the Amherst College women's hockey team Friday night s the Mammoths earned a 2-0 victory over the Trinity College Bantams at Albert Creighton Williams Arena.
Amherst improves to a 15-5-1 record overall and an 8-4-1 mark in conference play.
The Mammoths will look to carry this momentum into tomorrow night's rematch, as they host the Bantams at 7:30 p.m. at Orr Rink.
GAME HIGHLIGHTS
- After Amherst gained possession off the face-off in the Bantams' zone, the puck worked its way back to Dann at the point. Dann sent it across to Hohmann at the opposite point and back again before dishing it off to Alyssa Xu. Xu then executed a behind-the-back pass to Cara Mancini at the left post, who quickly fed it across the crease for Hohmann to tap it into the net with 6 minutes remaining in the first period.
- At 6:54 into the second period, Amherst's Mancini gained control of the puck in the right corner, curling back toward the blue line before sending a cross-ice pass to Dann. Dann collected it and fired a wrist shot, finding the back of the net.
- On a Mammoth power play, Annabel Raffin, from behind the net, started a series of passes up the ice that boosted offensive momentum. Raffin sent the puck off to Maeve Reynolds. Reynolds sent the puck across to neutral ice for Alya Abban to receive. Abban relayed the pass up to Marie-Eve Marleau for her to circle behind the Bantam's net with 10:20 remaining in the final period, coming close to securing another goal for Amherst.
BY THE NUMBERS
- Amherst outshot Trinity 42-19.
- The Mammoths went 1-6 on power plays, whereas the Bantams went 0-2.
- Amherst won 25 of the 49 face-offs. Anna Baxter won 11 of the 20 she took this evening.
- In goal, and securing her 31st career shutout, Natalie Stott saved all 19 shots on goal.
