2/8/2025 5:09:00 PM

HARTFORD, CT — The #15 Amherst College men's squash team saw their NESCAC Championship run come to an early end on Saturday morning, falling 9-0 to the #12 Tufts University Jumbos in the quarterfinals. The Mammoths fought hard on Trinity College's George A. Kellner Squash Courts but were unable to break through against a dominant Tufts lineup.

With this loss, Amherst now stands at 9-8 overall, and 5-5 in NESCAC matches. While their NESCAC Championship title hopes are over, the Mammoths will look to regroup and close out their season on a high note in the final stretch of competition. The Mammoths will next face #23 St. Lawrence University Saints on Friday, February 21st, giving them some time to regroup and prepare to take on their non-conference opponents at home on the Davenport Squash Courts. That match will start at 6pm.

GAME HIGHLIGHTS:
  • Senior Matthew Granovsky came closest to securing a win for Amherst, pushing his match to five sets. After winning the first set, he found himself trailing 2-1 before forcing a decider, but ultimately fell 11-4 in the fifth at the #6 spot.
  • First-year Graeme Herbert also put up a strong fight, taking the first set before Tufts' Rutva Samant at the #7 spot, before the Jumbo responded with three set wins to claim the match.
  • Several other matches featured tight opening sets, with junior William Okurowski and senior Abhimanyu Gupta, who both started with 13-11 and 11-9 set losses at the #8 and #1 spots, respectively.
