CLINTON, N.Y. – The Amherst College Volleyball team took down Hamilton in straight sets on Friday night (25-22, 25-22, 25-21). The Mammoths advance to 5-2 on the season (2-1 NESCAC), while the Continentals fall to 3-6 (0-3 NESCAC).
The Mammoths will be back in action next Friday, October 3rd, as they head to Maine to face Bowdoin College.
MATCH HIGHLIGHTS
* The first set started out with an even matchup between both teams. Sofia Camilo and Allie McLaughlin got the scoring started for the Mammoths, each earning two kills for their team in the first 6 points. The Continentals never trailed by more than 3 points and took the lead toward the middle of the set on a 5-point run. The Mammoths did not let up, as McLaughlin had a solo block and two more consecutive kills to take the lead, 17-16. Ellie Meyers got in on the scoring, as did Charlotte Rasmussen. The Mammoths took the set on a service ace from McLaughlin, 25-22.
* In the second set, the teams traded scoring through the first 7 points. The Mammoths took the momentum at 8-7, scoring the next 5 of 6 points. Meyers, Rasmussen, and Chideraa Ngwadom each scored a kill, and Judith Subirat-Bosch earned a service ace. The Mammoths continued their lead with kills from McLaughlin and a combined block from Meyers and Brielle Renwick. The Continentals narrowed the score late in the set to make it 20-19, but the Mammoths held strong with Renwick bringing it home off a strong kill, 25-22.
* The Mammoths came out strong in the final set with a kill by Ngwadom and two consecutive blocks. With a 13-10 lead, though, the Continentals went on a 6-point run to take the lead 16-13. The Mammoths responded with a kill from McLaughlin and a service ace from Audrey Krichev. The Mammoths, still trailing 20-18, scored the next 6 of 7 points. Crucial kills came from Addison Lau, Meyers, and Rasmussen. Rasmussen and Renwick also combined for a huge block. The Mammoths took the set off a kill from Rasmussen, 25-21.

* Allie McLaughlin had 13 kills, 3 service aces, and 11 digs on the night, leading the Mammoths in all areas.
