#14 Mammoth men blank Bates, 9-0

LEWISTON, ME — The #14 Amherst College men's squash team delivered a strong bounce-back on Monday night, rolling past #22 Bates College with a 9–0 sweep on the road in Lewiston to improve to 6–2 overall and 3–1 in NESCAC play. Coming off a two-loss stretch that included a loss to top-10 opponent Dartmouth, and NESCAC foe Tufts, the Mammoths controlled play from start to finish against the Bobcats, showing their depth across the ladder. The victory over Bates set a confident start for the remainder of their NESCAC road trip where Mammoths will face Colby and Bowdoin. 

GAME HIGHLIGHTS:

  • Aiden Shap was the quickest winner today in his 13-minute win at #8 singles, besting his Bates opponent William Veague with the score of  3–0 (11–3, 11–1, 11–1)

  • Roman Parisi fought through a thrilling five-set battle at #1 singles against Bates' Dennis Welte. The score against Welte was 3-2 (7-11, 11-4, 11-7, 7-11, 11-5). The match lasted for 59 minutes.

UP NEXT:

Amherst continues its NESCAC road trip in Maine on Wednesday, January 21 when they head to Waterville to face Colby. The match will take place at 6:00 PM. On Thursday, January 22, the Mammoths wrap up the trip in Brunswick where they will face Bowdoin College.  Colby is currently ranked at #20, and Bowdoin at #21.
