#14 Mammoth Men Upset in NESCAC Quarterfinals, 5-4

2/14/2026 6:12:00 PM

CLINTON, NY — The #14 Amherst College men's squash team saw its NESCAC Championship run come to an end in the quarterfinals on Saturday, falling 4–5 to #16 Colby College at Hamilton's Little Squash Center. The Mammoths battled hard across the ladder and picked up wins at positions 3 and 7–9, but Colby's strength in the top and middle order proved just enough to edge out the match. Amherst fell 4–5 to Colby earlier this season when the Mammoths traveled to face them in Waterville on January 21st. Amherst's record moves to 11–5 as it now turns its attention back to non-conference play as they will face Drexel University in one week to wrap up play before national championships.

GAME HIGHLIGHTS

        * First-year Aiden Shap delivered the fastest win of the day at #9 singles, storming past Oliver Riordan 3–0 (11–4, 11–6, 11–3) in just 16 minutes. Shap has been dominant in the majority of his matches in his                  freshman season.
  • At #7 singles, sophomore Flynn Venmore came through with a gritty four-game victory over Sebastian Campos, winning 3–1 (9–11, 11–6, 11–9, 12–10) in 59 minutes. After dropping the first, Venmore raised his level in the middle games and held his nerve in a tight fourth to close out one of Amherst's key points.

  • Amherst also earned convincing wins at #3 and #8, with Joseph Toth sweeping Hamza Wessam 3–0 (12–10, 11–5, 11–8) and Grady Herbert rolling past Avery Rosenberg 3–0 (11–5, 11–2, 11–4).
