AMHERST, MA. – Senior
George Chaidemenos (Athens, Greece), juniors
Andreas Sillaste (Oulu, Finland) and
Rex Harrison (La Jolla, Calif.), and sophomore
Albert Hu (Great Neck, N.Y.) and of the Amherst men's tennis team were named College Sports Communicators (CSC) Academic All-District selections, the organization announced today.
Formerly known as the College Sports Information Directors of America (COSIDA), the CSC divides the NCAA institutions into nine geographic districts, with Amherst being located in District 1. To earn Academic All-District honors, a student-athlete must be of sophomore academic standing with 3.50 cumulative GPA and be in the lineup for at least 75 percent of an institutions' days of competition (regional competition such as ITAs and non-team scored events do not count).
Chaidemenos, a mathematics major, is selected Academic All-District after his first All-NESCAC season, earning a First Team Singles nod. Over the course of this year, he has racked up an impressive 15-6 singles record against top level division III competition, a career best performance to close his career in the Pioneer Valley.
Sillaste, an economics and psychology double major, adds an All-District honor to a long list of awards: the junior earned All-NESCAC First Team Singles and Doubles honors after recording a 22-8 singles record and 14-11 doubles record this year. His singles selection was his third straight to the All-NESCAC First Team and joins his 2023-24 NESCAC and Intercollegiate Tennis Association Rookie of the Year awards. He also earned his second selection to the NCAA Tournament Singles draw, after making a Quarterfinal appearance in 2024.
Harrison, an astronomy and physics double major, put up a 12-6 mark (67 percent) in singles play in the fifth and sixth singles spots. His strong performances at the end of the season helped the Mammoths clinch NESCAC postseason play, with the junior going 8-1 with one unfinished match in his final 10 outings.
Hu, an economics and mathematics double major, posted an 11-5 singles record this season split between the fifth and sixth singles spots, good for a .69 winning percentage. His best stretch of the season included a 6-1 run during the month of April that helped the Mammoths go 5-1 during those matches and clinch a NESCAC Tournament berth. He also went 12-11 in doubles play this season.
The Mammoths finished the season posting a 13-6 record through NESCAC Tournament play and made a NESCAC Semifinal appearance this season. Sillaste will begin his run in the Singles Tournament on Friday, May 22.
