#11 Tufts edge #13 Amherst in 5-4 Friday evening battle

AMHERST, MA — The #13 Amherst College women's squash team returned to the Davenport Squash Courts on Friday evening to play in their first home match after four away matches on the bounce. They hosted the #11 Tufts University Jumbos at 4pm. After a tremendous battle from both teams, the Jumbos prevailed, beating the Mammoths with a close 5-4 scoreline. 

Up next: Today's result constituted Amherst's first loss of the season against a NESCAC team. Amherst's season record now stands at 7-4 overall (3-1 in NESCAC play). Looking ahead, the Mammoths will return to the courts on Sunday for another conference showdown. At 2pm ET, they will host the #20 Bates College Bobcats, who will enter the match with a 3-1 season record. The match will again take place on the Davenport Squash Courts.

GAME HIGHLIGHTS:
  • Every match was tightly-contested. The only match that was won in straight sets occurred at the #4 spot where first-year Brigid Brandon defeated Riddhi Joshi in 24 minutes. 
  • Sophomore Yana Sharma came out on top for the Mammoths at the #8 spot. She recovered from behind to win the fourth and fifth sets with scores of 13-11 and 11-9, respectively.
  • Sophomore Quincy Cline and junior Alex Brown delivered four-set wins for Amherst at the #2 and #3 spots, respectively.
