#13 Amherst suffer defeat to #18 Middlebury in Vermont, 7-2

MIDDLEBURY, VT — On Saturday afternoon, the #15 Amherst College men's squash team played against the #18 Middlebury College Panthers at the Bostwick Family Squash Courts. In the battle between two top-20 teams, the Panthers came out on top, beating Amherst with a score of 7-2 to win their ninth match of the season. 

Up Next: This loss moves Amherst to an 8-6 overall record and 4-3 in NESCAC play. The Mammoths will aim to rebound in their next matchup as they prepare for another key conference battle. Tomorrow, Amherst will return to action on their home Davenport Squash Courts to face their NESCAC and Little Three rivals, the #25 Wesleyan University Cardinals. The contest will begin at 11am. The Cardinals travel to Amherst holding a 7-6 season record.

GAME HIGHLIGHTS:
  • Amherst's two wins came at the #5 and #7 spots in two five-set battles. 
  • After winning the first two sets, first-year Fares Khairy lost the next two sets by two points but impressively recovered his momentum in the fifth set. Khairy won the deciding set with a score of 11-7 to conclude 63 minutes of intense rallies at the #5 spot.
  • Junior William Okurowksi's match at the #7 spot was even longer. In an hour and eight minutes, the Mammoth from Concord, MA, fought back from a two-set deficit to win the next three with scores of 11-9, 11-7, and 11-5, respectively.
