#16 Mammoth Men Rally to edge rival Williams, 5-4

AMHERST, MA — The #16 Amherst College men's squash team opened the Little Three championship on a good note on Wednesday night, earning a 5–4 comeback win over #12 Williams College at Davenport Squash Courts. Trailing 3–4 late in the match, the Mammoths fought back to take the final two courts and secure the rivalry victory. With three four-set victories, and two five-set victories, the Mammoths showed great grit all across the board. 

GAME HIGHLIGHTS:

  • First-year Devon Osborne gutted out one of the toughest performances of the night at #2 singles, outlasting Williams' Himanshu Pannu in a five-set thriller, 3–2 (11–5, 10–12, 11–7, 10–12, 12–10). The match lasted 1 hour and 10 minutes.

  • Sophomore Graeme Herbert delivered the match-winning victory at #4 singles, clinching the 5–4 team win with a hard-fought 3–1 win over Alex Akbari (11–7, 4–11, 11–8, 11–7) in just over an hour.

  7. Causey Green (W) def. Flynn Venmore (A), 3–1 (5–11, 13–11, 11–5, 11–7)

  8. Dylan Scott (W) def. Grady Herbert (A), 3–0 (11–7, 11–5, 11–6)

  9. Aiden Shap (A) def. Rafay Syed (W), 3–2 (8–11, 11–6, 5–11, 11–8, 11–7)

    UP NEXT: The Mammoths' overall season record now stands at 8–3 (5–2 in NESCAC matches). Next up, Amherst will travel to Middletown to face Wesleyan University on Saturday, January 31 at 11:00 AM. The Mammoths will play for the Little Three championship, and are looking to strengthen their national ranking.
