AMHERST, Mass. -- Four members of the Amherst College women's tennis team garnered College Sports Communicators (CSC) Academic All-District honors, announced earlier today: seniors
Amy Cui,
Katie Hart, and
Deliala Charles Friedman and sophomore
Lily Dounchis.
The Academic All-District teams recognize the nation's top student-athletes for their combined performances on the court and in the classroom. Student-athletes must have a cumulative grade point average of at least 3.50 and have played in 90 percent or started 66 percent of their team's games to be eligible.
Cui is a neuroscience major from East Brunswick, N.J. The senior earned All-NESCAC First Team Singles and Second Team Doubles honors, closing her Amherst career with five total All-NESCAC selections in four years. Serving as the Mammoths' number one singles player for much of her career, the senior has produced an 18-8 singles record this season, registering a .69 win percentage and a 21-9 doubles record for a .70 win percentage this 2024-25 season.
Hart is a mathematics and psychology double major from Palos Verdes Estates, Calif. Hart and Cui have played doubles together for the last three seasons for the Mammoths, leading the duo to an All-NESCAC Second Team Doubles selection this season. Paired with fellow captain Cui, Hart finished with a 21-9 doubles record for a .70 win percentage.
Friedman is majoring in art and the history of art and mathematics, hailing from Brooklyn, N.Y. The senior earned five All-NESCAC selections over her career including Second Team Doubles honors this year. Partnered with Dounchis, the pair finished the season with a 19-8 record for a .70 win percentage.
Dounchis is persuing a double major in psychology and Spanish. The sophomore earned her third All-NESCAC career selection which includes Second Team Singles and Second Team Doubles this year. Dounchis fell just short of a winning record at number two singles while posting a 19-8 doubles record with Friedman.
The Mammoths finished 14-8 this season, making an appearing in the NESCAC Semifinal and receiving an at-large bid into the NCAA tournament. Receiving a First-Round bye, #10 Amherst defeated Vassar in the NCAA Second Round before falling to fifth-seeded Claremont-Mudd-Scripps in the NCAA Third Round to conclude their season.
