#12 Amherst Edges #7 Tufts to Earn Fourth NESCAC Win, 4–3

LUDLOW, MA – The #12 Amherst College women's tennis team earned a signature 4–3 win over the #7 Tufts University Jumbos on Monday afternoon at the Ludlow Tennis Center. In one of the biggest results of the season, the Mammoths secured the doubles point and won three gritty singles matches to earn a top-10 win versus their NESCAC rivals. 

Up Next: With the win, Amherst improves to 8–5 on the season and 4–2 in NESCAC play. The Mammoths continue conference competition next weekend with a road doubleheader, starting with the #29 Colby College Mules on Saturday at 10 AM. The match will be played at the Alfond-Wales Tennis Courts in Waterville, ME, or indoors at the Harold Alfond Athletics and Recreation Center in case of inclement weather.

HIGHLIGHTS:
  • Amherst clinched the doubles point with tight wins at #1 and #2, including a 7–6(5) tiebreak from sophomore Lily Dounchis and senior Deliala Friedman.
  • Friedman then backed up her doubles win with a comeback singles win at the #3 spot, with a score of 2–6, 6–2, 6–4.
  • Junior Sophie Diop stayed steady under pressure, earning a crucial 6–4, 6–2 win at #4.
