Mammoths sit in 12th place after making cut at NCAA Championships

WILLIAMSBURG, Va. – A long and bittersweet day for the Amherst College women's golf team at the 2025 NCAA Division III Championships Thursday.

The Mammoths finished up their strong second round Wednesday morning with a 298 (10-ver par) and made the cut as one of the top-15 teams at the championship tournament. However, the long day of golf caught up with the Mammoths -- some who played more than 24 holes today -- in the afternoon as they completed the third round a combined 22-over (310), slipping to 12th place out o the remaining 15 teams heading into the final 18 holes Friday. 

First-year Jia An finished the second-round a team best 1-over, earning par on eight of the final nine holes and firing a birdie on hole No. 12. Classmate Mekhala Costlello shot a 3-over 75 on the Plantation Course, playing eight holes this morning, and followed that up with another 3-over 75 on the River Course in the afternoon's third round. She had three birdies in the third round, which began at 12:30 with a shotgun start.

After three rounds Costello sits at 7-over par and in 17th place. An shot a 5-over 77 in the third round and sits in 37th place at 10-over after play in the afternoon. 

Annie Dai fired a 6-over 78 in the afternoon's third round after completing the second round in the morning with a 9-over 81. She is at 19-over after three completed rounds. Abigail Kim parred the final six holes of the morning's second round to finished with a 3-over 75, but after a 8-over 80 in the third round, she is at 18-over for the tournament. Joelle Kim finished the second round with a 3-over 75 that included one birdie, but an 81 in the third round has her tied with Dai at 19-over. 

The Mammoths will resume play on the River Course on Friday (May 16) at a time 9 a.m. This will be the fourth and final round of the championships.
